Developing a Shared Vision

Institution:
Staff shortage is a nightmare to any institution and the healthcare is not an exception. As a department, we are facing this challenge and there is need to understand why and collectively be responsible for working with the challenge. One of the major factors contributing to the shortage is lack of growth in medical professional enrollment compared to the fast growing demand. In the last few years, the hospital has expanded significantly but few new members of staff have joined the department leading to the crisis. The quality of patient care has decreased significantly also due to the staff shortage. Since the ratio of nurse-to-patient has gone down same case to other staff, it is not possible to give enough and required attention to all the patients.
Lack of job satisfaction contributes to high turnover according to Brown and Lent (2004). The department has lost experienced staff costing both the department and the hospital at large. Those that are left are forced to bear the workload since it is a challenge to get experienced professional for replacement considering the market demand of the same.
