Developing an Evaluation Plan
In this paper, a discussion is provided about the various methods that would be utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed solution. The variables that would be assessed when evaluating the outcomes of the project are also discussed exhaustively. In this project, the problem which has been identified is violence against healthcare workers. In particular, this project is focused on the violence against nursing staffs attending to patients in the emergency rooms. Patients, the close relatives of the patients, or even senior staffs could assault nurses in the workplace (Powley, 2013). The proposed solution entails a number of measures that need to be put in place at the health care organization for preventing violence against healthcare workers, and for responding to such incidents effectively. The proposed solution also specifies measures on how nurses can deal with aggressive patients who tend to attack them.
Methods for evaluating effectiveness of the proposed change
The main method that would be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed solution is to compare the reported incidences of nurse violence prior to the implementation of the proposed solution and following its implementation. For instance, if there were roughly 12 reported cases per month of patients abusing healthcare workers before the proposed solution was implemented, and the incidences have reduced to less than 3 per month after the proposed solution has been implemented, it would be seen as effective. This would essentially imply that the proposed solution has helped to lower the incidences of patients and their relatives being aggressive against nursing staffs (Rodwell & Flower, 2013). It is notable that in the proposed solution, all the incidences of violence that healthcare workers in the hospital encounter would be reported. This information will help the hospital’s management in monitoring the magnitude as well as nature of violence and devise effective structures for dealing with the issue. All in all, the proposed solution would be considered as effective if the incidences of reported violence against nurses per month reduce and become lower compared to the numbers of reported incidences before it was implemented. If the numbers of reported incidences of violence against nurses stay the same or increase, then the proposed change would not be considered as effective.
The other method for evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed change is by comparing how nurses respond to situations in which patients exhibit violence and aggression toward them before and after implementation of the change. After the proposed solution is implemented, nursing staffs at the healthcare facility will be expected to respond effectively to such situations without confronting the aggressive patients compared to before. It is notable that in the proposed solution, nurses would be enrolled in crisis management training programs that would be intended to enable them gain pertinent knowledge in providing care for patients even when the patients are aggressive and violent toward them. It is notable that with this knowledge, nursing ...
