Introduction
Today, affordability and access to quality healthcare are some of the problems facing many healthcare settings all over the world told. Some of the challenges include high costs of health care based on income. However, the use of mobile technology help in solving some of these challenges through some mobile applications designed to solve specific health care issues. Medical devices help in patient-monitoring improving health care delivery. Some of these applications found on mobile devices help patients connect to health care providers offering patients and providers the access to reference materials, laboratory tests and medical records (Health IT., 2103).
Electronic Mobile Devices Values
Using mobile devices by health care professionals has become a common phenomenon in healthcare settings, resulting in an increased usage of medical software computer applications. Several applications are used on mobile device to assist healthcare providers with important tasks like gathering patients’ medical history. These devices also help in communication and consultation, reference and information gathering on patient management, and monitoring. An example of some of the mobile applications includes the electronic health record.
The electronic health record (HER) is a digital version of a patients’ chart that make information available instantly whenever the information is needed. The electronic health record brings together all relevant information about the patients’ health. It contains all the patient’s medical history including diagnosis, medication, allergies, radiology images laboratory test results and even immunization records among others. The computerized mobile device helps health care providers to make more-informed decisions about patient’s care. It further streamlines workflow within a healthcare setting enhancing efficiency (Health IT., 2103).
Some of the benefits of using EHR include the ability to make better decisions because it provides comprehensive information. Health care providers are able to obtain accurate and complete records of patients’ health in order to provide the best possible care. Information stored on EHR is useful during medical emergencies. In addition, during crisis, EHR provides immediate access to patient’s information based on patient’s history, allergies and medication, which can save patients life instead of waiting for test results that may take a long time enough to compromise the health situation of the patient.
Using mobile devices helps in coordinating care, which is important especially for patients with chronic medical conditions like diabetes. By using mobile devices, information can be shared with the patient’s family and caregivers making them part of the decision-making process enhancing the patient’s health, especially those who suffer from chronic diseases like asthma and diabetes. Overall, the main goal of using mobile devices in health care is to improve quality and promote the safety of patients (Health IT., 2103).
