For this case your are asked to identify potential causes for the problem you began addressing in module 1, Inadequate funding has severe impacts to the performance of the healthcare organizations. analyze the causes and explain how you would go about assessing these causes in the context of a specific organization. Again, you are asked to refer to practice but also integrate literature that deals with this issue and the knowledge you acquired in the previous courses in the BSHS program. ASSIGNMENT EXPECTATIONS Length: This assignment should be between 2-3 pages (500-750 words) in length, excluding references. References: At least two references should be included from academic sources (e.g. peer-reviewed journal articles). Organization: Subheadings should be used to organize your paper Format: APA format is recommended. While APA formatting of references is not a requirement, the references need to be presented in order using a standard citation style (APA, AMA, MLA etc). When material is copied verbatim from external sources, it MUST be enclosed in quotes. The references should be cited within the text and also listed at the end of the assignment in the References section. See Syllabus page for more information on APA format. You will be expected to provide a scholarly basis for your response. Your opinions should be justified with evidence from the literature. Government hospitals rely almost entirely on the federal or national government for funding. Thus, the key cause of the problem is underfunding by the national government. The local government had done very little in regards to addressing this issue. The public hospital system in the state of Arizona is in short of cash, a crisis that has led to the lack of adequate health workers, ambulances, as well as medical equipment to offer quality care. It would seem that the budget is not sufficient for current services (Alison, 2013). In the United States, public hospitals get substantial funding from state, locals, and/or national governments. Additionally, public health organizations might charge Medicare, Medicaid, as well as private insurers for the care of patients. Public or government health organizations are more likely to provide comparatively unprofitable medical services.
Budget cuts by the federal government: This being a public hospital, the lack of funding problem was mainly caused by underfunding by the national government given that the health organization is a not-for-profit organization and it relies on over 90% of its budget from the federal government (Rouse, 2009). The hospital is run by the state government but there has been a budget cut for the hospital in question because of various reasons. The federal government notified that hospital that it is ending the hospital’s Medicare Provider Agreement. In essence, this means shutting off $18 million in yearly federal funding at the state-run health organization. At issue is the federal Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services disputation that the public hospital is inadequately staffed and patient complaints regarding quality of care (Alison, 2013).
