Family Health Assessment
Author Name
University Name
A family health assessment helps to formulate an effective care plan for families based on their desires and requirements. The family I chose for this project belongs to California. Mr. John, the head of the family, works in a departmental store. He has a beautiful daughter, Maria, and an adorable and educated wife, Rose. I asked a number of open-ended questions to them. Maria, being 3-year-old, was not involved in the question-answer session. John and Rose seemed to be happy in their small yet luxurious house. He is 40-year-old, and she is 35-year-old. The salary of John is enough to support his family, and neither he nor his wife wants to do a part-time job to earn extra cash.
Values/Health Perception
The health perceptions and values are purely based on individual beliefs (Orlando & Wu, 2018). Both John and Rose are Christians, and they are raising their baby daughter in a religious environment. They told me that their marriage was arranged nearly ten years ago; however, they could not have a baby due to some health and financial problems. John explained that he loves celebrating Halloween and New Year Eve with his family. Rose, on the other hand, reads the Bible early in the morning and surfs the internet whenever she is free at home. She has diabetes and high blood pressure, and John is color blind. He is unable to recognize or identify different colors, and always seeks the help of his wife in this regard. Unfortunately, the husband is overweight, but the wife is fit and slim. Both of them want to live a long and healthy life together, which is possible only when John thinks of shedding extra pounds. On Sundays, the three of them go to the church and spend hours there, praying and bowing before God.
Nutrition
John and Rose told me that their meals contain loads of proteins, vitamins, calcium, minerals, and other nutrients. Rose does not eat as much as John does. She drinks fresh juices and provides her daughter with milk twice a day. As far as John is concerned, he relies on junk foods. In fact, he eats burgers and pizzas whenever he is at the store. Rose told me that the husband went obese when he increased his dependence on unhealthy food items. They should eat fresh veggies and fruits.
Sleep/Rest
John and Rose sleep at 10:00 p.m. as the husband has to go to the office at 9:00 a.m. and the wife has to wake up early to prepare breakfast for the daughter and the husband. Rose sometimes washes clothes in night hours, and she is a freelancer too. However, she always manages her time so that she could go to the bed early, which is a plus point. It looks like neither John nor Rose has a sleeping disorder. In fact, they spend quality time together in night hours.
Elimination
John is obese, so he should spare some time for exercises. Ideally, he can do a brisk walk and must bring his wife and daughter to the park early in the morning, before going to the office. He might have to change his lifestyle by the whole in order to get rid of obesity. Both Rose and Maria look okay as their weight is within the normal range.
Activity/Exercise
Rose is weight and health conscious, but it looks like she has failed to teach the eating etiquettes to...
