The leading causes of diseases and death in the United States are the chronic diseases and conditions that include cancer, stroke, arthritis, obesity and type 2 diabetes. By the year 2012, statistics shows that nearly half of the adults were diagnosed with a chronic health condition and among the infected; at least one in four adults had two chronic conditions or more (Bauer, Briss, Goodman, & Bowman, 2014). As at 2010, chronic diseases were the first seven out of ten top causes of deaths. Cancer and heart diseases were the major causes accounting for about 48% of the deaths (Bauer, Briss, Goodman, & Bowman, 2014). Obesity is also a serious problem that acts as a risk factor for many diseases such as cancer and diabetes, and in 2010, 78 million Americans were diagnosed with obesity.
