Health inequality is defined as disparities which exist in the world of health. These differences in most of the circumstances are avoidable and can be prevented if proper channels are directed towards changing them. In a broader sphere, these disparities are assumed to be morally unethical and unfair. In all countries, more socially disadvantaged groups have poorer health, greater exposure to health risks and poorer access to health services. Equity seeks to strike a balance between the rich and poor. It works with the principle of fairness to ensure that resources are distributed equitably to everyone to help in achieving their health needs (Linsley, 2011). This paper is an attempt to underscore this fact, as well as provide a pragmatic view of the situation.
Socio-economic differences in societies always give rise to health inequalities. People with higher socioeconomic position in the society have a greater array of life chances and more opportunities to lead a flourishing life. This translates into better health. In this regard, those people who come from low-income families find themselves without proper medical cover and this in turn affects their morbidity and infancy mortality rate.
