So, we have an opportunity to really look outside of the box with Healthcare Informatics this semester based on real life experiences. It's time to get innovative with how care is delivered. This last year has tested this to the extreme in many situations.
Think of a device or application that has made a difference in the care you have delivered to your patient population or demographic
OR
One that you think should be used because you see the benefit of such an item to a specific population or demographic
2. Describe this device or application and speak to the benefits of using such an item.
3. Speak to the potential complications or issues with regard to the device or application
4. Bring forward a process that promotes this product in a way that makes it easy for the end user.
An example would be the apple watch and the ekg monitoring that cardiologists have found to be helpful sometimes in emergent situations.

Technology is an essential innovation that continues to impact life in various ways. The health sector has benefitted from such innovations in immeasurable amounts. One of the innovations that continues to impact the health sector and with a potential to become a turning point in health service delivery is the virtual ICU or remote-ICU (Udeh et al., 2018). This innovation is a redesigned model of care that relies on technology to render expertise and knowledge of experienced health service providers to a large group of patients who cannot access the healthcare facility immediately because of geographical distance or financial challenges. The dimension has been beneficial to both patients and healthcare service providers by reducing overreliance on healthcare service facilities.
Virtual ICUs is a technology enabled care designed to deliver care from patients away from the hospital settings. The device was developed to address the increasing complexity of patients and insufficient resources to handle the increasing number of patients who require ICU services. The device is especially important in the current COVID-19 pandemic, where hospitals have run out of space to accommodate patients who need the ICU services. This program has added additional layer of support to the care team (Davis, 2017). Nurses can comfortably monitor more patients at a time, document during codes, and communicate with other professionals about any information concerning the patients.
One of the main advantages of Virtual ICU is that it reduces pressure on the limited resources available in the health facilities. As the COVID-19 rates continue to increase, more people need immediate health intervention and with the limited number of healthcare services providers, there is a continuous need for more personnel.
