Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest 100-meter runner, is an example of a sports athlete that uses each of the three major energy pathways namely; Phosphagens, anaerobic and aerobic pathways. Bolt uses Phosphagens to release maximum energy that enables him to take a very fast start. Anaerobic pathway allows Bolt to sustain physical energy for about 30 seconds to 3 minutes without interruption. Aerobic pathway enables Bolt to acquire more energy while running. In aerobic glycolysis, the body needs constant oxygen supply to produce energy, which is generated by burning carbohydrates and fats (Riahi et al., 2019). The energy produced through aerobic pathway keeps Bolt strong throughout the activity.
