Physical examination is a crucial process in the field of health care because it can lead to early and effective diagnosis of ailments. It is a process that should be undertaken with a lot of caution so as to ensure accurate results. When it is done in a good manner it achieves the target of diagnosing any abnormality. In order to diagnose the abnormality, the health care provider should have knowledge and experience on what is normal in the part of the patient that the examination is being carried on. This paper analyses normal physical examination on an adult and majors on the assessment of the heart, lungs and the peripheral vascular system. A table format is used.
Physical Examination1Examination of the heartThe heart is located in behind, and slightly left of the breast bone. It is a muscular organ of the size of a fist. The adult patient was moved to a 30 degrees angle in order to perform the examination of the heart. The patient was requested to just calm down and relax. He was also asked to attempt as normal breathing as possible in order to avoid distorting the observations. Auscultation of the carotid to assess bruits was done, and they were not found. The jugular venous pulsation indicated that everything is well. 2Examination of the lungsThe lungs are a pair if spongy air filled organs located on either side of the chest, also known as thorax. Before one indulges in the examination of the lungs themselves, physical observation of the patient in the first instance can reveal a lot about the condition of the lungs; for instance, the movement of the thorax.
During this examination, the adult patient was asked to relax and breathe in the normal way so as to avoid distorting the observations, again. Engaging in light talks like asking the patient his history and not too personal questions about their life in general, also help the patient to relax. The patient was asked the reason for hospitalization and also the family health history
