With many technologies emerging in the healthcare sector, choosing the appropriate technology to meet the desired healthcare outcomes is paramount. As an administrator in Medical Home for Terminally Ill Children, I have come to acknowledge that technology has greatly impacted on healthcare delivery especially with the use of information technology. Electronic health records are one of the successes associated with technological advancement. The benefits include quick data processing, transfer of information, proper information storage, and proper financial management (Barbara, Heller, & Durney-Crowley, 2013). Patients, providers, and other stakeholders work jointly without the need for physical contact in some cases. However, staying alert overrides all these benefits. There are other risks that come along with the technological advancements. Administrators shoulder the ethical responsibility of minimizing these risks.
Despite having Federal and State laws that impose legal requirements in relation to ethical principles, the healthcare systems should identify and enhance ethical behaviors different from the statutory bodies. Self-regulation works effectively in the healthcare systems more than imposed regulations from Federal Government.
