The greater majority of the American population is approaching the senior category of citizenry and with this trend, where people live longer, and the health care system is placed under pressure. Funding and labor shortages are some of the main problems that are showing up and affecting the already battled system(Gummadi, 2014). With the numerous changes that have been effected in the sector, including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, Medicare as well as insurance have raised the level of access and this is bound to have some impact on healthcare offered to the aging population.
According to the population demographics, the current population is at 315 million and there is continuous growth. Out of this lot more than 72 million are above the age of 65, which accounts for about 12% of the population. This is a figure that is expected to rise to 21% by the year 2050(Anderson, 2014).The highest costs on medical care are borne by the aging population, compared to the younger generations. As it is the health care sector is lacking in labor and finding.
