As COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, it is imperative to understand the risk factors associated with this epidemic and the significance of understanding these risk factors. The rapid transmission of COVID-19 and the increased pressure across healthcare systems have resulted in emergency measures leading to economic and social disruption. As of January 2020, more than 98 million people globally have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and over 2 million deaths have been reported (Lv & Lv, 2021). Risk factors for adverse outcomes include older age and pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, severe asthma, and cancer (Pascarella et al., 2020). Therefore, defining these factors and associated outcomes of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 is crucial to improving the understanding and management of this disease.
In particular, learning about the risk factors in the outcome measures in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 is important because it helps understand how an individual’s medical condition could affect their health if they get sick with COVID-19 (Pascarella et al., 2020). It also helps individuals take precautions as they live a normal life. Besides, these risk factors help anticipate medical treatment that the patients might need if they get sick (Lv & Lv, 2021). Lastly, the risk factors play a role in reducing the risk of severe covid-19 by managing any conditions that are risk factors (Pascarella et al., 2020).
PICOT Question
The PICOT question in support of this topic is: Does understanding the risk factors associated with COVID-19 improve the health of COVID-19 patients compared to understanding COVID-19 measures like social distancing, wearing masks, and Sanitizing within 14 days of diagnosis?
Purpose of the Paper
The purpose of this paper is to describe the role of the risk factors in the outcome measures in patients diagnosed with COVID-19. A PICOT question has been formulated follows to support the topic. As such, the paper asks the question:- Does understanding the risk factors associated with COVID-19 improve the health of COVID-19 patients compared to understanding COVID-19 measures like social distancing, wearing masks, and Sanitizing within 14 days of diagnosis? This PICOT question is a therapy question because it aims to compare and understand the appropriate measures that COVID-19 patients can implement to reduce the spread of the virus and improve their health outcomes.
