According to Corner and Bailey (2008), cancer is a group of diseases that involve unregulated or uncontrolled cell growth. This uncontrollable aspect of growth and cell division leads to the formation of tumors that cause the invasion of the nearby body parts. The disease is then spread even to the rest of the body parts through the bloodstream and lymphatic system. However, not every tumor is cancerous, as benign tumors do not invade the neighboring body tissues or rather do not spread to the other parts of the body.
Cancer is caused by complex, diverse, and partially understood conditions that make its diagnosis hard to treat (Pinheiro & Sherman, 2009). However, there are different actions or norms that increase the risks of cancer including dietary factors, use of tobacco, obesity, radiation exposures, infections, as well as the environmental pollutants. However, this essay aims at describing the approach to care of cancer. The descriptions include the staging and diagnosis of cancer, the complications of the side effects of cancer treatments, and the best methods to reduce the physical and psychological effects.
Various aspects are helpful towards the prevention of cancer. Such include conducting physical exercises, eating less refined meat and meals, eating more fruits, vegetables, and grains, not smoking, reduce sunlight exposure (Ferguson, 2010). Maintaining a good healthy weight and receiving vaccinations for infectious diseases are also some efforts of cancer prevention.
In identifying cancer, it can be detected through various ways including the indication of certain symptoms, signs, medical imaging, or screening tests.
