The disorder usually begins during the young adulthood and its onset is observed during the young adulthood. Different cultures often have their own way of treating people with schizophrenia. In this paper, we examine the way in which the views of the Indian culture on people suffering from schizophrenia. In this paper, we seek the views of GJ a 45- year old man who lives in the rural parts of India. We sought to understand the way that they view people with schizophrenia in their native country and compare it with the way that we view the people in my home country China. Peer reviewed articles were used as a source of information. Stigmatization is a common barrier to effective schizophrenia treatment. The common symptoms of schizophrenia include hallucinations, a disorganized speech, delusions, movement disorders, and challenges in concentrating on a particular task. As mentioned, the most common treatment barrier associated with the disorder is stigmatization. Both men and women experience stigmatization due to their condition and it is more common among the men as compared to women. In India, the prevalence of schizophrenia is 3 out of 1000 individuals CITATION San11 \l 1033 (Santosh & Murthy, 2011). The condition is also more common in men as compared to women. The first thing that we sought to understand is the way people with schizophrenia disorder are treated in the society and how stigmatization is barrier to their treatment. In India, the people are treated with disdain and whatever they say is not taken seriously since the people know that they are mentally ill. When someone is suffering from schizophrenia, a marriage would also be arranged by the elders. This marriage would take place between the relatives and it is used as a tool of concealing the condition. In India, the causes of schizophrenia condition can also be different depending on the family. Some families attribute the causes of the condition on the individual factors such as their personality or their failure to carry out certain cultural norms.
