Buddhism arose from prince Siddharta born at the Himalayas. After sorting enlightenment on the issues surrounding humanity, he became known as Buddha, the “Awakened One.” Upon his death, his followers known as bhikkus spread Buddha’s teachings and travelled through the roads that Buddha used. They had definite dress code of yellow robes. Spiritual revolution continued in India with the conversion of Ashoka, the king of Mauryan empire to Buddhism. Buddhism was against violence and Ashoka conformed to nonviolence after fighting many bloody battles. The rise of Kanishka of the Kushana dynasty and Harshavardhana promoted the rise of Buddhism.
