The music piece Dido and Aeneas Act III: Dido’s Lament is compared to Handel- Water music, suite no. 2 in D major because they are not similar and sends a different message to listeners. From the tempo, rhythm, melody and tone, they have their own characteristics. In addition, the comparison also serves as an analysis of their impact to listeners.
Dido’s lament begins with a very subtle tune, and the tempo is larghissimo at the beginning with soft singing. It can be described that the singing is unhappy and the listener will have a feeling of melancholy and solitude. The rhythm is regular, which means that its occurrence happens only in the middle of each element, and has similar size or length. The piece has color melodies because the pitch is the same the entire time and the groove base and direction of the melodies are intertwined with each other. In addition, the blends do not drastically change as it is obvious in the piece.
The tone is vocal music because there singing, but the flow does not really change. The lamentation Dido can be felt as the tone is analyzed because it cannot be said that there are happy tunes in the song. Furthermore, the song’s pitch stays monotonous and even if there is singing, the mood does not change at all.
