During the 20th century, the United States witnessed an immense revolution, with a number of events taking place.I believe the most significant event of all occurred on July 2, 1964, when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the most historic Civil Rights Act of 1964(Andrews & Gaby, 2015).The Act was sponsored for the first time by President J.F. Kennedy in June 1963, barely a year before his assassination (Arendt, 2017). The signing of the Act brought to an end the exclusion in public places and employment discrimination on the basis of color, race, religion, the nation of origin or gender, and is seen as one of the most important events in the history of the United States during the 20th century.
The event gave birth to equality and brought a glimmering beacon of hope to the minorities. As a result of that Act, no citizen could be denied employment opportunity barely on the basis of race, religion, and gender. No child would be discriminated against on similar grounds, at school, in terms of enrollment and learning. This has seen many black students join the prestigious colleges in America and have turned out to be great people (Munger & Seron, 2017). The Act, having been a successor of another Anti Discriminatory Act of 1920, aimed at granting women equal rights. This has seen great success among the hitherto discriminated Americans and has been the cornerstone of multi-cultural happy co-existence in America despite a few challenges.
As a result of the Act, there has been an increased acceptance of the blacks in the American society. This has evolved over the years to the level of Americans voting for President Barrack Obama as the first African-American president in 2008 and 2012 (Munger & Seron, 2017).
