VIETNAM WAR Name: Instructor: Date: The Vietnam War was a military conflict that was costly and extended from 1954 through to the 1970`s. It took place in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Conflict had however begun back from the 1940`s. This war was between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam got support from the Communist friends while South Vietnam got assistance from the United States and other anti communist allies. The Viet Cong, which was a Southern Vietnam group fought against anti-communists towards the north. United States and South Vietnam fought on air superiority and this gave them an upper hand in the battle since they searched and destroyed operations inconjuction with the ground forces. The involvement of the US government was to prevent communism from reigning over South Vietnam. To the North Vietnamese government, this war was intended to fight colonialism. She initially fought against France then United States then later against South Vietnam, which was known to be the US puppet state. Early 1950, American military advisors started trickling in and were known as French Indochina. The participation of the US increased from 1960 and more troops came into Vietnam. International boarders were manned come 1965 and combat teams were deployed all over. These operations reached their peak in 1968 after which some of the ground forces were withdrawn following the Vietnamization policy.
