The United States of America is undoubtedly one of the great nations in the world. This is attributed to a number of factors, and chief among these factors is its deep and committed respect for civil rights and liberties (Ushistory.org, 2015). Being a great democracy, it only follows that public policy in the American system of government is largely determined and influenced by its view on the role of civil rights and liberties.
A democracy is a system of government that constantly demands a delicate touch in the management of its affairs, and the formulation of public policy. This is because it has to balance the needs and interests of a many individuals and groups (Hill, 2014). While the majority has the final say in any democracy, the minority groups must also be considered in formulation of public policy.
In the USA, this is expertly exercised. One of the biggest influences on public policy within the USA is labor organizations. Like any other nation, the American population is the main source of labor for all its industries and organizations. Consequently, it is inevitable that the views and opinions of these organized labor institutions be respected and taken into consideration (Dodds, 2012). This warrants the government to consult such organizations in the event that they wish to formulate policies that may affect these organizations either directly or indirectly.
Public policy formulation also warrants the consultation of corporate institutions, entitlement groups and current trends in globalization. Corporate institutions are a key source of revenue in any nation, and the USA is no exception (Rushefsky, 2014).
