Describe the key characteristics of a whistleblower, and briefly summarize one (1) researched instance of whistleblowing in one (1) publicly traded company within the last 12 months. Include the details of the issue that the whistleblower reported and the effect of the whistleblower’s actions on both the whistleblower himself and the company.
Decide whether or not the whistleblower was justified in reporting the company’s actions. Provide a rationale for your response.
Examine the extent to which the whistleblower would be protected under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Justify your response.

Introduction
Unethical behaviour is becoming a common occurrence in large companies. Large companies are aware of the fact that the fines they pay are lower compared to the financial gains they derive from such unethical practices. However, not all employees will go along with this behaviour, some good employees always report such occurrence. This essay defines whislteblowing explaining some of the characteristics of whislteblowing. The essay gives a brief instance of whitleblowing situation in one public traded company that occurred within the last 12 months and in conclusion evaluate if whislteblowing is justifiable and analyzing the extent to which Sarbanes-Oxley Act can protect whistle blowers.
Whislteblowing
Whislteblowing is the act of calling to attention any wrongdoing that is about to occur or has occurred within an organization .Whistleblowers are individuals who report illegal activities of employers, for example inflating insuring charges. Such reporting is not welcomed by the management most of the time; employees faces allot of resistance from employers therefore as part of recommendations, employees are encouraged to utilize internal mechanisms set by the organization to avoid resistance (Green & Latting, 2004).
Characteristics of whistleblowers
Whistleblowers are guided by their own attitudes and behaviour; this is a strong characteristic that is visible in many whistleblowers. They look at the seriousness of the wrongdoing as compared to what they believe before taking action. Therefore they are guided by own thoughts. Whistleblowers are well educated and act professionally as they fight for what they believe is right (Green & Latting, 2004).

In one of the incidences, Mark Livingston former employee of Wyeth complained about the manufacturing issues of Vaccine which the management failed to address.
