After the war, there were large parts of Europe that were left in ruins. There were redrawn borders, homecomings, burials and expulsions. However, the attempts to rebuild were also just starting. The war led to the death of approximately 60 million people comprised of civilians and soldiers. The intensity of the experience during World War 2 was unforgettable because of how the Nazis treated the people.
Those who experienced the German rule after 1939 were made to serve the Reich or were doomed for destruction. The Europeans lost hope and felt tired because of the war which started when Hitler invaded Poland in September 1939 and it was concluded when the Germans surrendered in 1945. This led to a total war that killed civilians and soldiers.
Poland, Romania, East Germany and Czechoslovakia had detached from the reign of Western Powers and the division of the continent grew bigger. The notion of the nation with pure power was gone, as well as the key players which are Germany and France, were on a mission to become closer. For France, this was to contain the power of the Germans for their own advancement.
