BUILDING PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIP
Developing relationships with the clients helps you anticipate his/her needs and make adjustments so that you can improve your delivery over time. This requires patience and determination. At ASIA Inc., enhancing this relationship involved getting to know the client better. Appreciating the fact that my client’s were English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), I motivated and helped my clients answer the questions assigned correctly. I assisted them construct sentences and even phonetics. At least once a while, getting off-topic sought to build that trust between the client and the social worker. Topics like never getting out at night alone. I strove to keep the professional Code of Conduct i.e. divulging client’s opinion or personal information. In either way, whatever I garnered from them helped me understand them better and develop means of helping them better. At the end of the day, the service delivery to the client should be paramount. No amount of personal connection can substitute this. We should always seek to exceed our client’s expectation.
Relationship with my colleagues, including my supervisor, enhances a healthy work environment besides developing a professional self. Everyone at the workplace was nice. I asked my supervisor questions pertaining to improvement of one’s professional self. This helped me integrate my classroom knowledge with my client’s interaction. My supervisor assigned me tasks like interviewing my clients; motivating them and helping them construct full sentences.
