The Different Kinds of Learning Styles
Learning style is a unique individual characteristic that defines their distinct way to gather, organize and acquire information. Individuals interact with the environment within the cognitive, psychological, and affective domains. Every person has a style of learning, which has a substantial impact on the learning process. There are various models and theories which explain the learning styles. The most popular model is known as VARK Model (Moussa, 2014). The model divides learning styles into four main types identified (VARK) Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, and Reading/Writing.
Visual learners are those individuals who learn through visuals such as pictures, maps, diagrams, illustrations, or videos. These individuals acquire information through visual stimuli using picture descriptions and media (Cassidy, 2004). Visual learners focus more on written material, reading, and graphical display of information as it offers them greater understanding and concentration.
Auditory learners are verbal learners who grasp information through listening. These individuals are exceptional listeners, and their ability to learn through auditory stimuli makes the oral approach most suitable for their learning style. The communication methodology also suits their learning style to collect information and knowledge through conversation or exchange of dialogues. They can also recollect the information they hear during any discussion or lecture. Their perception is best sorted when spoken as they respond better to aural expressions (Moussa, 2014). These learners find it helpful to understand things when spoken aloud.
Kinesthetic learners are the typical learners who learn by movements. They prefer learning through hands-on experience. It is easy for them to retain things when they feel a connection by actually performing the task. For instance, when...
