Good parenting and good teaching have something in common. They both aim for loving our children well. Is that a walk in the park all the time? Of course not. If it were, we wouldn’t need courses like this to help us through. The questions you now need to ask yourself are:
What type of parent or teacher would you want to be?
How would you best communicate?
How would you discipline?
Part A
Identify a television show or movie for each of the following:
one that depicts an authoritarian style of parenting
one that depicts an authoritative style of parenting
one that depicts a permissive style of parenting
Explain the effect that each of the three styles has on the children in the show.
Part B
Select one (1) of the communication topics from Chapter 7 (effective communication, reflective listening, problem solving, etc.). Create a parent-friendly flyer describing at least two (2) ways that parents might use your selected communication strategy with young children.
Part C
For the scenario below, determine which type of related consequence is most appropriate. Provide two (2) supporting facts to justify your answer, citing your sources.
Scenario: Basilo was pretending to cook dinner in the house area when Salena grabbed a plate away from him and said, “Boys don’t cook.” Basilo replied, “Yes, they do. My daddy cooks!” as he grabbed onto the plate. The children continued their tug-of-war until you intervened.

Parenting Styles Author’s Name Institutional Affiliation Parenting Styles 1 Introduction Parenting is one of the most important aspects discussed in the present era. Authoritative parenting is considered the most beneficial style for children. However, in the present era, research and experience of the parents are quite different from the previous one. Depending on the child needs, behavior of child and goals of parenting, parents are flexibility applying a different style to meet the needs of their children. In this paper, different types of parenting styles are discussed in light of real-life experiences. Moreover, the importance of communication between a parent and a child is also discussed in the paper. 2 Appropriate Parenting Style for My Children As a parent, my focus is on the authoritative parenting style with few characteristics of the permissive and authoritarian style. It is evident from a research study by Smetana (2017), that parenting is now more situational based and multifaceted. It solely focuses on the well-being of the child and focuses on a parenting style in terms of the dimensions of a child instead of global trends or styles. Therefore, my parenting style is a mixture of all the parenting styles mentioned earlier. This strategy enables me to cope with the behavior of my child, which cannot be handled through any specific parenting style. 1 Communication Strategy Some communication strategies that I apply as a parent are discussed by Faber & Mazlish (2017), in their book “How to talk so little kids listen”. As a parent, I ensure that my child gets heard and understood by me. I make use of simple language, which is easily understandable by a child. According to my child’s age, I make sentences easy and understandable. I appreciate more than criticizing my child to increase her self-esteem and confidence. 2 Discipline Strategy The best discipline strategy which I have read from the American Academy of Pediatrics (2018), are that as a parent to discipline your child, it is necessary to first listen to them. Teach them about right and wrong, set consequences for their actions either right or wrong. Set clear rules and limitations for them. If they are doing a good act, appreciate them. On the other hand, ignore their bad behavior so that it does not get reinforced. When a rule is broken by them, use the call out strategy. These strategies are very helpful in getting a child disciplined. 3 Part A 3 Movie Name for Authoritarian Parenting Styles: “Brave” 1 Explanation Brave is an animated movie where the relationship between a mother and a daughter is focused. The mother, who is a Queen and her daughter, who is a princess, wants her daughter to act and behave in a way to get married (Ebert, 2019). I have observed in the movie that the queen keeps on giving instructions while she is eating, sleeping, walking, or doing anything in her routine life. This not only irritates the daughter but also makes her anguish towards her mother. The lack of communication between them also increases troubles in their lives. 4 Movie Name for Authoritative Parenting Styles: “The Sound of Music” 2 Explanation Initially, the father in this movie is a strict parent and reflects an authoritar...
