I believe that the Buddha’s teachings offer a useful means to alleviate suffering. Not only do the teachings acknowledge that sufefring is part of life, they also offer practical solutions that are not just based on faith. These solutions can also improve self-awareness, knowledge, and promote peace of mind. For instance, the teachings suggest that practicing the eightfold noble paths of right view, speech, intention, livelihood, action, effort, midfulness and concentration can eradicate suffering (Novak, 1994). When one looks closer at these eightfold noble paths, it is evident that they all make us better human beings.
