Validating Art Work
Any piece of artwork is validated when its value is satisfactory in the eyes of the viewer. Art unlike science comprise of two values namely; aesthetic value and historic value (Sondra, 2007). In science, the experts try to increase the value or attribute of available data consequently establishing a theory to explain an entity in the universe. Conversely, art lacks object and it is indeed its own object (Sondra, 2007). In order to validate science a scientist has to research and unearth the previous knowledge related to the object of interest, he must be in a place to understand the attributes of an object as established by a previous scientist in order to build on it. On the other hand, art aligns available material, technique with human feelings, which can be independent and does not need validation as different artists view things differently. While science creates a room for increasing knowledge on a certain object in universe, art simply creates a complete object.
Art always demands conception of something new, to artists’ creativity is mandatory, inimitability is even much better so that the spawned work may be able to stand by itself. Art demands that an object be distinct from others, as though it has never existed and would never exist again (Christopher, 2009). Science may not necessarily deal with what is new and unique but seek to explore more on what is known to uncover more facts. The primary goal of artistic work is not utilitarian it acts as a guide, something to educate and pass on some unique insight which is embed in the work of perfection. The essence of beauty is garnering perfection while science seeks to garner knowledge. One of the key reasons why artists do not necessarily validate the work of the art is that they often look it through a critical eye and lack objectivity because what is acceptable to john may not be perfect to Peter.
Artwork may evolve over a long time period in some cases art evolves for decades and it can take years to discover whether that piece of art is great. Art like fashion can fade but its value can be validated in relation to the aesthetic values of the people living during the era of its inception (Sondra, 2007). While artists seem to work in seclusion exploring their own intelligence and skills, scientists complement each other and deduce vital information from their predecessors. When artists respond to the aesthetic value entrenched in work of art their sentiments are instinctive by nature and as the feelings are affected by the presence of artwork an artist is able to say artwork is “good”. Different artists react differently to arts because their exposure, personal preferences and their backgrounds are different so there is lack of standardization scale to differentiate between what is good and that which is not, in relation to validating art.
