Rationale
The text of choice is a speech on the influence of social media. The audience for this text is anyone using social media. It is a relatively large audience because it is hard to find anyone today who never uses social media. But the text targets specifically the millennial because they are the most addicted to social media. The essay is based on using short and simple statements that are easy to understand. The focus of the text is to ensure that the audience gets the message. Therefore, there will be no attempt to use complicated vocabulary words that might be too hard for the target audience to understand. Instead, I will use short simple sentences that are clear to understand.
The focus of the essay is on clarity and placing thesis as was learnt in class. Having a thesis provides grounds for arguing issues in a text. The choice of influence of social media will attract the attention of the audience because it is something that they come in contact with every day. The purpose of the chosen topic is to ensure that people know how to balance their usage of social media to ensure that it works to their benefit and not to their detriment. The mood of the writing would be light because it is something that is meant to engage the audience. Combining humor in the writing will therefore help to lighten the mood.
The structure of the writing will include an introduction, body, and conclusion. The introduction will have a thesis statement that will set the ground for the rest of the essay. The body of the speech will highlight the positive and negative influences of social media. The conclusion will highlight the final remarks.
Speech: The Influence of Social Media
Ladies and gentlemen, let me start off by welcoming you all. I hope you are all touched by the changes in technology that are happening around us. One of the most important things happening in the world of technology is the growth of social media. It is very hard to find any individual who is not on any social media platform. In this speech, I want to argue that social media has greatly influenced the way of lives of many people in bad ways and in good ways.
The obsession with social media is telling especially among the millennial. Some of the most popular social media platforms include: Linkeln, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. Most people belong to at least one social media platform. On a positive note, social media has made communication easy among people in various parts of the globe. Today, people claim to be having friends from all over the globe while many of those friends they have never even seen or met. In the years gone by, it would be difficult to know that such people even existed without actually meeting them.
