Mission Statement
My mission statement is to continuously grow in my professional and personal life by nurturing professional networks, meeting people from all walks of life that inspire and engaging them to talk about issues that affect their social wellbeing, and grow through continuous learning while promoting social welfare and change.
Profile Summary
Currently, I am a Social Science student at Centennial College. My professional goal is to accumulate as much knowledge in social work theory application and research in professional practice. Social injustice has and remains a critical social-economic challenge globally. A background literature search on social work shows an existing gap in the social work environment in Ontario, Canada, that I can exploit to make a meaningful contribution to society. Therefore upon completion of my program, I would like to apply the knowledge acquired in developing and supporting social wellness programs that solve individual, group, and community problems. I feel better prepared and ready to face social work practice challenges. Besides, I have realized that I can exploit the accumulated hours of professional hands-on experience to promote social justice. The knowledge of the agency-client service matrix has prepared me for direct practice and policy development.
My objective is to continuously learn and grow through hands-on work in a social work environment. As a generalist social worker, I derive essential practice knowledge from using social theoretical frameworks. I now have a thorough understanding of social work ethical practice and values. I have gained firsthand knowledge with regards to how to tap appropriate resources for community development. During the practicum, I learned effective communication skills that include oral and written communication.
Besides, I have gathered technological information that reflects professional social work experience. The field practicum helped me develop a positive work attitude and a creative mind open to new ideas. It's this open-mindedness that will be essential for my professional practice in the field of social work. Besides, I have learned various techniques for applying social work theories and solving individual, group, and community problems.
Still, the practicum exposed me to agency practice through which I learned systematic and preplanned approaches to solving process social problems that include study, diagnosis, and intervention. I have achieved the self-awareness and professional discipline necessary for working in individual or group settings.
