Several issues arose during the meeting. Sam kept on insisting that he did not find it fair that he was not chosen for the advancement. Sam kept on insisting that he did not find it fair that he was not picked for the promotion. Although it was all successful but not to my expectations. I was more oriented towards interactional justice.
Interactional justice is concerned primarily with making everyone accept why the decisions are made such that they do not sense that the organization is imbalanced (Cohen-Charash and Spector, 2001). The meeting with Sam was meant to help him understand the final decision of the committee and to show him that indeed the committee was interested in how he felt after missing the promotion.
I believe some of the most important aspects of an organization are justice and fairness. It is vital that Sam feels the committee’s decision was fair and just, and that regardless of the fact that he missed the promotion, the committee still cares about him.
Managers, I included, tend to emphasize distributive and interactional justice. Employees, on the other hand, seem to emphasize procedural justice because it influences their perceptions. Employees may find some decisions unjust because they are not solely focused on procedural justice. In addition to this, factors such as distributive and interactional justice may occur as unfair or biased too many employees when they are not on the receiving end (Konow, 2003).
