Mockingbird Don’t Sing is a movie written by Daryl Haney and produced and directed by Harry B. Davenport and Kriss Murphy in 2001.
It is based on a 1970 true story of child neglect and abuse. A 13 year old girl (Gene) referred to as Kate in the movie had been discovered in a dysfunctional home in Arcadia, Los Angeles. Kate was still in her diapers, could not walk or talk, and had no social skills, no emotional development, and was referred to as a wild child. She was constantly abused by her father (Wes) who was also abusive with her mother (Louise) who had cataracts. She has an older brother (Billy) who helped them escape home to seek help.
