Our society has this stigma against mental illnesses. This prompted filmmakers to begin producing movies that demonstrate the manifestations of mental disorders and how others should approach these people. In this paper, we shall analyze the film “Out of Darkness” and the signs and symptoms of Schizophrenia, a mental disorder that presents different personalities in one person.
Out of Darkness is a movie about a girl named Paulie Cooper, who experienced a mental illness called Paranoid Schizophrenia. She experienced auditory hallucinations as manifested by hearing random voices that are not audible to others. There was a scene where Paulie began talking angrily against another unseen being as if they were arguing. Here, she was cursing in front of nobody and responded as if someone cursed at her.
