The simple poem by Ruefle in her work she describes her death to be because of happiness from taking a glass of water. Same water she describes will enter her body make her feel good and probably die out of that happiness is the same water she describes will also leave her body. She observes happiness as an art, where she keeps referring to "art of happiness.” Ruefle seems to be suffering from thirst, and the only way she could quench her thirst is through getting a glass of water which should be brought to her as she gets it herself it will not serve the purpose it ought to. "I am too weak to speak; this is why I write, pleases will you bring me some water?, I cannot make the few feet to the sink, the art of happiness prevents me …." Ruefle. The first five lines there is no explicit narrative since the narrator speaks of how weak she is and cannot even get her glass of water which should restore her, but she also claims besides her being weak the art of happiness prevent hers too. The poets' dictation and imagery: she describes happiness as art; she paints a picture of water leaving the body perhaps through urine or sweat. She paints a picture of water flowing to the ocean in the end as that is where it is destined to be with all the dirt it collects.
There is an artificial factor in this piece as Ruefle tries to combine diverse threads in her well-mastered poetry. She starts with a sad tone of her being weak and then veers off to be happy. She changes from dying out of a thirst to b...
