Research Paper Assignment

 

Purpose:                                                To gain insight, knowledge, and acquire new information in the area

of fitness, health and nutrition.

 

Value:                                    This assignment is worth 30 percentage points towards your final class grade.

 

Assignment:                          Go to your friendly campus library or online and research your favorite

health/fitness related topic. Type or word process, and double space a one (1)-page write-up with font size no larger than 12, and margins not to exceed 1 inch.  Hand written work will not be accepted, nor will late papers. No excessive use of quotations!  No double-double spacing between paragraphs!  Write in essay/paragraph format.  No listing or bullets! Put all concepts in your own words. I want 1 FULL page of YOUR words!  No headers or titles! Simply print your paper out, and hand write your name on top.  For your paper, use at least one reference source (i.e., article, journal, internet, etc.) to help formulate your opinion.  No source is an opinion paper, and an opinion paper will get no credit! No interviews!  No video reviews! You must attach a copy of your source to receive credit for this assignment.  Therefore, it is not necessary to do a bibliography because I have a copy of your actual source!

 

Topic Ideas:                        

1diet fads, diet myths, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa,various forms of                                                            exercise (e.g., pilaties, tae bo, etc.), strength and conditioning techniques,                                                              volleyball strategies, history of volleyball,etc. Your topic must relate in some                                                             way to our class.

Besides having the requisite fundamental skills in volleyball, there is a need to focus on the right behavior and attitudes among college athletes. Knowledge on nutrition does affect the attitudes of college sportsmen including volleyball players. Nutrition is a critical component of the physical wellness program, and those who integrate nutrition knowledge in training programs are more likely to increase sports performance as nutritional status influences both training and physical training. Athletes do not only need to improve performance, but also practice healthy dietary eating habits that integrates balanced diets as much as possible.
According to Rosenbloom et al, (2002) today’s athletes are bombarded with information from diverse sources on the role of nutrition in health. Nonetheless, increased access to information has not necessarily point out the level of knowledge gained about the relationship between nutrition and athletic performance.
