The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas Name: Institution: ‘The One Who Walks Away From Omelas’ is a short story that was written by Ursula K. Le Guin. It was first published in the year 1973 by New Dimension 3 and later in the year 1975 by The Wind’s Twelve Quarters (Teen Ink, n.d.). The story is basically about the societal debt to the individuals with specific reference to the way this individuals must make a choice between a society that condones violence and torture and that, which supports civilization. In the story’s plot, the city of Omelas is one that is filled with delight as well happiness and could be said to be a utopian city. All the inhabitants of this happy city are well cultured and very smart, making the city a very habitable with all the right social foundations. However, the city rides on a crude secret, that involves an innocent child being kept in great filth and darkness as part of the sacrifice for the people of the city and the habitable atmosphere.
