Kate Chopin’s was an America from Missouri born in 1850. During the period of her prime times in writing, the idea of feminism was not a common one. In fact, women were regarded as property of their husbands. As such, her works on feminism, which were influenced by her spending most of her life living with women, are considered to be ahead of time. In "The Story of an Hour", the author expresses her view of marriage as an oppressing institution. She exhibits an unusual thought that women get to be free when their husbands pass on. It is clear to the readers that Chopin is far from excited with the idea of women submitting to their husbands. She bears incarnate hate for the idea of men ‘owning’ women.
