Pompeii and Herculaneum were historic cities of the Roman Empire in the 1st century (Spodek, 2005). The cities are believed to have been buried by a volcano and abandoned. This eruption buried and destroyed its fossil and killed millions of its dwellers and destroyed their property. The geographical information about Pompeii shows that, it was situated in the south east of Mount Vesuvius while the sister city Herculaneum, was in the west on another mountain peak. The city of Pompeii is believed to have been an industrialized town with many activities ranging from trading to harboring services. This was evidenced by the archeological evidence recovered. Archeologists found shops, brothels among other evidences. The well-designed buildings, good theaters and temples prove that it was a developed city (Spodek, 2005).
