Type I diabetes is a chronic condition which involves the existence of high level of sugar or glucose in the blood. The condition begins when the body fails to produce sufficient amount of insulin or when the use of insulin becomes less effective in the body. Though this condition may occur among people of all age groups, it is mostly prevalent in children, teenagers and adults at young age. The exact cause of type I diabetes has not been established, however, available information indicates that its cause is most probably due to an autoimmune disorder. This is whereby an infection causes the body to hinder the manufacture of insulin (Government of Victoria, 2013). The major treatment and therapy for this condition includes adhering to a healthy diet, regular exercises and controlling the level of insulin in the patient’s blood. This paper evaluates how these treatment options can be applied in patients with Diabetes 1 syndrome
In most cases, diabetes patients have problems with their eyes. This is irrespective of whether the symptoms show themselves or not. A fragile, small and delicate blood vessel in the retina is the cause for such eye problems. In a case when these vessels are damaged, then there is bleeding in the backside of the eye. Consistent bleeding may then lead to blurred or total loss of vision. Apparently, regular exercises assist a lot in controlling the level of sugar in the patient’s blood system. In addition, it also assists in burning excess calories and fat into the required amount.
Mathur, (2010) explains that patients with extensive eye diseases related with diabetes need to control the type and intensity of exercises. Intensive exercises such as weight lifting, boxing and driving should be avoided. Those exercises that may increase the blood level should also be avoided especial in the case when the kidney is affected. The patients should also pay closer attention to any complications in their blood level. Another important consideration is the type of food to take before and after these exercise programs. For instance, sufficient amount of carbohydrates should be consumed at this time since 50% of the burned calories are from carbohydrates.
