Despite the fact that books are the primary source of intellectual entertainment, they are no longer popular as it is used to be hundred years ago. This has been contributed by the invention of other sources of information and entertainment such as television, radio, internet, cinematography, and computer games. Although reliance on technology for information is beyond control, books are irreplaceable part of human life. They play a noteworthy role in the growth and development of individuals (Novak, 2013). They inspire people in a more effective way than other mediums. This paper discusses the reasons as to why it is important to read books.
Books enable people to enrich their vocabulary, and they offer a wide choice of words to use in different occasions. Due to their wide choice of words, they help people to know how to express themselves, and construct concise sentences on their own. Relying on other sources of information such as documentaries and television programs can widen a person`s vocabulary, but not in the same way as books.
