Reflection Essay 507 Student’s Name Institution Reflection Essay 507 Concept A: Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) A significant part of the course focused on MCOs and how they differ from Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). Through the course, I got to understand the role MCOs play in ensuring efficient utilization of resources and consequently their effort in trying to reduce healthcare costs. I learned and understood the features of MCOs such as restriction on the choice of provider and inflexibility compared to ACOs (Barnes, Unruh, Chukmaitov, & Ginneken, 2014). I also got to understand the types of plans under MCOs including HMOs, PPOs, and POS. By understanding the features that characterized MCOs, I’m in a better position to meet the needs of patients under different plans. The experience and insight I got from learning MCOs, as well as ACOs, will go a long way in ensuring that I facilitate the delivery of quality care to patients enrolled under different plans.
