As a young kid, I was cheeky and had a lot of energy. My parents had gotten used to me and had employed a successful way of dealing with me. I was punished whenever I failed to act in accordance with what was expected and was rewarded when I did. Everything worked according in ways they envisioned. I thought I was in control, but my parents knew exactly what they were doing.
A good example of how they used to control my responses and reactions involved food. My parents and I used to fight the moment food was introduced to the table. But this is where positive and negative reinforcement and punishment were used to great effect. I liked to ride my bicycle, and my parents made sure this was a tool that will be used to make me eat.
