A Reflection on my Professional Experience and Goals as an Operations Manager
As an operations manager, my professional experience has been based on lean manufacturing, total quality management, and supply chain management principles. These principles are essential in optimizing production processes, reducing waste, and improving product quality. Lean manufacturing has helped me understand the principles of streamlining production processes by identifying and eliminating non-value-adding activities. Total quality management has enabled me to focus on customer satisfaction by ensuring that products meet or exceed their expectations. Finally, supply chain management has been instrumental in optimizing the flow of materials, information, and money across the supply chain. This essay reflects on my operations management experiences and plans.
In the short-term, my career plans as an operations manager involve applying these principles to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the production processes. This includes implementing lean manufacturing tools such as value stream mapping, 5S, and kaizen to identify and eliminate waste. I also plan to use total quality management tools such as statistical process control and quality circles to improve product quality and customer satisfaction. Finally, I intend to leverage supply chain management principles to optimize the flow of materials, information, and money across the supply chain.
In the medium term, my career plans involve expanding my knowledge and skills in operations management by pursuing advanced education and professional certifications. This includes completing my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and obtaining a Master’s in Operations Management from a reputable institution. After completing these degrees, I will continue to develop my skills by obtaining additional certifications, such as the Lean Enterprise Institute’s certified lean manager certification and the American Society for Quality’s quality management certification.
Through my experience as an operations manager, I have learned that concepts like lean manufacturing, total quality management, and supply chain management are essential in optimizing production processes, reducing waste, and improving product quality. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has exposed many flaws in the lean manufacturing model and has forced organizations and operations managers to re-evaluate their operations strategies.
