Histogram and Descriptive Statistics

Essay Instructions:

Visually examining distributions and reading the output of descriptive statistics is an important skill for determining which statistical procedures are appropriate.
After generating descriptive statistics and a histogram from your data, share a screenshot of the sheet in your post and develop an original response guided by these questions:
How does the histogram look? Does it look skewed one way or another? Can you visualize its kurtosis – is it flat or peaked?
How does the visual of the histogram chart compare to the values that were calculated in the descriptive statistics?
Does the histogram, at least visually, look like a normal distribution (bell curve)?

Histograms help to visualize patterns and the distribution of numerical variables at a glance. One way to describe the shape of a histogram is by inspecting whether the data is symmetric or skewed (Nuzzo, 2019). If it's symmetric, the data should appear almost identical when folded at the center of the distribution such that the right-hand side and the left-hand side contain an equal number of observations. The most common symmetric distribution is the normal distribution, which appears bell-shaped. Skewness is used to describe the symmetry of a distribution; the skewness is zero for symmetric distributions. For skewed data, a large portion of the data is clustered on one side of the histogram. In a positively skewed distribution, the peak is on the left side, the mean is greater than the median, and the distribution has a long right tail (Zach, 2023). In a negatively skewed distribution, the peak is on the right side, the mean is less than the median, and the tail on the left side is longer.
