According to the video, people are more motivated by cognitive rewards. When individuals, for instance, are promised huge rewards, they tend to deliver less than expected. The only time that rewards work is for straight and straightforward Forward tasks such as asking someone to do overtime. When the assignments get more complex and need some conceptual thinking, the outcome is always negative (RSA, 2010). In the ted talk, it is evident that money is a motivator, and if employers do not pay enough wages, their subjects won’t be motivated to perform better.
Contrary to Chapter 5 of our textbook, the speaker to achieve autonomy, the employers must be willing to give motivation bonds. The author explains that autonomy should be a driving force within oneself to do better and not require coaxing to perform better. The speaker also narrates how rewards should accompany the textbook’s intrinsic factors because money, mostly, is a motivator (Ward, 2017).
