According to Carl Rogers, every human being tries to attain an optimal sense of satisfaction with his or her life (Burger, 2019). Rogers identified several aspects that characterized a fully functioning person. One key characteristic is that human beings are open to experiencing new things. Whether negative or positive, the person accepts the emotions. In regards to the negative feelings, they work through it to find a way forward. A fully functioning human being is also characterized by existential living, meaning they try to live every life’s moment, appreciating the present while not focusing much on the past.
