Eating disorders are behavioral situations characterized by extreme and continuous disturbance in eating behaviors related to distressing views and emotions. Recent research shows that eating disorders affect averagely up to 5% of the world population; most affected people are children and young adults (Galmiche, 2019). They include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, pica disorder, rumination disorder, and binge eating disorder. These behaviors stirring happens in a way that is comparable to obsession (Touyz, 2020). This paper discusses how the family plays a vital role in the development of eating disorders.
The family performs a significant role in the creation and maintaining eating disorders. Recent research also shows that families with eating disorder conditions tend to be controlling, perfectionistic, inflexible, and fixated on success (Phillipou et al., 2020). They are sometimes irrational and have expectations for achievements. They may also put too much effort into outward compliments. A number of the kids from these homes try to reach victory by actuality existence in small bodies and attractive, even when not feeling fruitful (Touyz, 2020). When the children ponder that they are not living up to the family’s expectations, they opt to engage in something that appears to be more organized and successful, which is often weight loss and food restriction.
