Which gospel story of Jesus birth you think the movie we watched in class is more like. Use examples from the gospels to make your point.
While there are instances when the story appears to mimic what is written in the Gospel of Mathew, I am inclined to say that the movie is more like the Gospel of Luke. The story begins with the foretelling of the birth of John the Baptist. Zechariah and Elizabeth were old and had no child, but the story begins with the Angel of the Lord prophesying to Zechariah that Elizabeth will indeed conceive and bear a child. In Luke 1:13-15, it is written “But the angel said to him: ‘Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord.’” Aside from the prophecy of the birth of John, there is also the part where Zechariah becomes dumb as the Angel of the Lord said he would until the birth of John the Baptist.
The birth of Jesus is also foretold in the book of Luke, and this is shown in the movie. In Luke 1:31, the conversation between Mary and the Angel of the Lord is captured. “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.” These words are repeated in the movie in the same manner that the Angel of the Lord told Mary. Mary also protested at the prophecy because she was a virgin and the movie captures this scene as well. However, in the end, she agrees to the will of God, and unlike Zechariah, her faith affirms the Lord’s trust in her.
Another scene that appears to confirm that the movie is more like the Gospel...
