Today, most Americans are addicted to the use of technology which includes online gaming, social media, online gambling, online shopping, pornography, and work-related addictions (Sharma et al., 2017). Although the world is digital, technology addiction has led to obesity, diabetes, and other health-related issues. The United States of America has recommended different policy practices to help handle the issue of technology addiction.
Policy Development Recommendations to Prevent Addiction
To deal with technology addiction, the United States of America has recommended outdoor activities over technology (Kuss & Gainsbury, 2021). Since most people spend much of their time on their devices, engaging in outdoor activities would ease the addiction as the mind discover other valuable things. Outdoor activities may include walking, riding a bike, or going to the gym. Outdoor activities pull on from the verge of addiction and get to discover other helpful activities that are equally important.
Equally, one can limit the time they spend on social media. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram take much of our, and it is crucial to limit the time spent on such platforms (Kuss & Gainsbury, 2021). A bigger percentage of technology addiction is on social media platforms as people access different information. Therefore, one has to understand their purpose and limit the time spent on such platforms.
Similarly, one can set aside reading time instead of getting all the information online. Reading at least 30 pages a day can help one overcome the issue of technology addiction in a great way (Kuss & Gainsbury, 2021). One can choose to read books on different topics of their interest for at least 30 minutes before checking the phone. It will help deal with the addiction over time.
