Nonprofit organizations around the world help to improve the livelihoods of individuals and entire communities without harboring any selfish or ill motives. One notable organization in the United States is the Neighbor to Neighbor Greenwich organization. It was founded in 1975 when a group of individuals came together to collect used clothing and redistribute the same those people in need within the Greenwich area (Ntngreenwich.org n.p). The organization received space to conduct its operations at the Christ Church basement. It has grown immensely over the years and expanded its scope of operations to the provision of food and other basic living essentials in Greenwich, Stamford and Port Chester. It succeeds to distribute items in these regions through the help of over 250 volunteers in different age brackets (Ntngreenwich.org n.p). It has also instituted a referral system that helps to identify and schedule requests for assistance. These efforts by the organization are inclined to its mission of not only improving the lives but also strengthening community members. It is also aligned to its vision of fostering a community where all residents have access to nutritious meals and clothing. Nonetheless, there are several key areas that the organization can embrace and do better. First, in addition to supplying nutritious meals, it should conduct regular sensitization campaigns on healthy living. Secondly, the organization should also partner with professionals in different fields to provide free technical courses in aspects such as masonry, carpentry, and gardening among others. Thirdly, it should put in extra efforts to improve the education sector and facilities in the region. Therefore, by incorporating these three aspects in its operations, the Neighbor to Neighbor Greenwich organization will take a holistic approach in solving the issues in the region.
The first key aspect that the Neighbor to Neighbor organization should embrace in its mission and vision in the region is to strive to establish a society where all people are conscious about leading healthy lifestyles. Reports indicate that about seven in 10 deaths are caused by poor diet and lifestyle factors (Washington Post n.p). Individuals are not consuming balanced diets and on the contrary, have become ardent consumers of fast foods that are fatty and have minimal nutritional benefits.
