Comparing and Contrasting the Treatment

Essay Instructions:

**This is a two part assignment. The outline is due in 10 days and the completed paper is due in 16 days.**
Once again, we will be using a two-step assignment to construct your essay. The first step is the assignment for M5A1, the Topic Proposal/Research Question and Brief Outline.
In Essay 3 you will compare and contrast the experiences that diverse groups have in the military and the natural science professions (STEM). Please be sure to review the learning materials for this module before beginning to address this assignment.
Here are your instructions for this M5A1 assignment that will form the foundation of your Essay 3 (due in Module 6):
Select one group, either minorities—such as African Americans, Latinos—OR women.
Create a research topic/question that will allow you to compare and contrast the treatment, prejudices faced, and challenges encountered in the organizations experienced by your group, both in the military and in the STEM fields.
For example:
My group: Select form the list above
Research topic/question: “(The group you wish to consider) that enter the army or try to enter the STEM fields often confront prejudices and stereotyping that limits their ability to succeed. This forces them to leave the army and the STEM fields at an unacceptable rate.”
Create a short (2+ pages) outline for this topic/research question detailing how you will examine these two institutions’ approach your group. Be objective; use facts and data from your research. Cover one and then the other, then compare and contrast the facts you have located. How are the two institutions’ approaches to or treatment of your group alike, and how are they dissimilar?
Show the unequal treatment of your group by both institutions. Ex: (Your chosen group makes up 50% of the U.S population, but only 10% of those with terminal STEM degrees and only 20% of officers in the army. (Johnson, 2013))
Discuss how the covert or overt policies (that limit the participation of women and minorities) can ultimately be detrimental to the whole country.
List two academic resources you will be using, one for each perspective. Give complete APA style references for each.
Essay 3 DUE in Module 6, should be 1500 to 2000 words in length (not including title page and reference page). The paper must contain in-text citations and references in APA style. Papers submitted without in-text citations and a reference page will not be accepted.

Outline
Introduction
This research proposal will focus on understanding the challenges, treatment and prejudice, which women encounter in the military unit and the STEM careers.
Furthermore, the research proposal will study comparison analysis to understand the implications of women serving the military base and those who participate in the STEM professions.
Prejudice, treatment and challenges that women face in military
Women and men are different in gender. They differ from one another in nature and; therefore, there is no surprise to say that they also differ in combat. Many people reason that military tasks are fit for men than women because men are physical stronger and more aggressive and, thus, their physical traits are important in combat (Saathoff-Wells, 2012). This is a source of belief that continues to stereotype women in the military.
This research proposal will conduct a study to understand why only few women serve in the military.
Besides that, understanding the challenges facing women and how women are handled in the military will help the military agents to understand how women can be assisted to improve their performance in the military.
Prejudice, treatment and challenges that women face in STEM
The fact that women are underrepresented in the STEM careers has raised concerns; it is vital to find out reasons for such happening (Bilimoraia and Lord, 2014).
In workplaces and institutions, there is few number of women in science and engineering professions. The research proposal will try to understand why this occurs.
The research will identify why women are not willing to study science and math courses.
Apart from that, the research will found out whether or not women are unable to work for eight hours daily in weekdays as required for effective performance in science-oriented institutions.
The research will also try to understand whether an innate factor or biological factor influences women to hate doing math and science careers.
Moreover, the research will examine the role of gender discrimination as a factor that causes problems to women.
Research will analyze the problems and how women are treated at workplace and in the learning institutions in order to understand how women could participate in the STEM professions.
Comparing and contrasting women experience in the military and the STEM
The research will examine comparison analysis of the matters facing women in STEM fields and the military institution and how such issues are similar or different for women in general.
The comparative analysis will contrast and compare issues and experiences surrounding women in the military and the STEM careers.
The research will examine wider historical, social and economic contexts of the military unit and the STEM professions.
Comparison analysis will help to understand how women should be supported to improve their participation in the military and the STEM careers.
